Must Know Standards

Interestingly, this list varies from city to city.  As jazz scene's are created, the local players 'settle' usually 'settle' in to a repertoire of standards.  I think though, it is safe to say you MUST know a core of 'standard' standards.  These are tunes you just simply must know.  They are played throughout the world and it is your responsibility to know them.  There have been some fantastic recordings of all of these standards and I urge you to check them out and learn them from the record if possible. Be careful with real/fake books, as good as some of them are, they are not always correct.  Lifting the melody or chords from your favorite version is a much better way of doing it!
